I have not got to drop my tank to get to my leaking fuel lines yet.....
still trying to remove broken door step as I don't like crawling in there
under the POOP spout....
Nice of them to make the bolts heads hidden under the floor.......and so that
they spin.....
Had to break down and go buy me a new Dremel tool.....

Anyway,  how many are there.....of those vaccum hoses?   Up above the tank...?

Hi A-Dude,

I just had my tank off.  Mine had 2 lines (opposite corners) that joined in a "Y" fitting, and then out the step-side, and then forward.  You can shimmy in there between the step and wheel, just watch that shackle that sticks down.  My Chilton shows there's supposed to be a loop that rises as a vapor/gas separator, but my Clip doesn't have that... and I couldn't see where one could even go.

Before you go to the trouble, make sure your leak's from the top.  The shadtree-types here said the sender plate is a common one, and the nipple flange for the gas line is a notorious leaker, and while I had mine out, sure nuff, it had goop smeared around it, and there had been an obvious leak there at some point.

If there's ANY way you can jack her up, it'd make the job a WHOLE lot simpler.

Good luck... I'll be waiting to hear all those #@@&@#^(! -  :D

Well,  I replaced the tank with a used 36 gallon tank from a salvage yard....
Good thing I got the straps for the 'new' tank.   50 gal straps wound not fit.

Had to cut a large 1/2 pipe that was capped off on the sending unit.   I guess maybe it is for fuel transfer if it had side tanks or something.   IT was to deep to fit into the 36 gal tank.    Had to use a radiator hose for a longer filler neck hose.

Had to use washers on the sender unit screws..... the holes moulded into the tank were just to bunged up and rusted.
I greased the cork seal before I tightened it down - and grease squished out.....so hopefully It is ok.    I didn't feel like making a gasket
after working on it several hours.....

Put 5 gal back in and no leaks......  Hopefully the sender seal is ok.   Looked ok.....

If anyone replaces the in tank filter with a Fram replacement the auto parts store one would not fit.   I had to drill the end of it larger to slide onto the fuel intake pipe 3/8.    I think maybe if I had bought one for a 440 vehicle, it might of worked as I read they have larger fuel lines.

So far no smell of gas when I went out to run the RV for a while.
Refreshing....

Now I have to figure out where the hoses go to my vapor can(s)
It has 2 tucked up near the transmission on the passenger side.
The lines are capped to them right now.
I'm going to try to get the vapor scavenge system working again....
If I can figure out the hoses...from the books I have.

I'm trying to decide it to try to blend off the last 5 gal of old gas I got
out of the tank /w new.....like 5 to 1.... It's pretty green.

Funny how the first 15 gal I syphoned were ok, then it got dark yellow
like PEE and then the last tip the tank gas was greenish.

My new tank had lots of carbon in it..... 3/4 think chunks.... I cleaned
it out the best I could at a car wash.

I'll probably have to change the in tank filter element again.    It's really
small compared to the old stock one.........

And I was really mad when I had to drill the end of that filter.   Auto
parts store closed.

A-dude.... sent ya a PM about your lines.... get it?

aliendude

No PM.

Thanks though.

I was looking at my books today trying to figure out the vapor lines.
I'm looking at it and it looks like there's the tank fumes line, a carb
vacuum scavenge source, and a control vacuum line to make the
thing poppet and scavenge.     But from what I see, the control vacuum
is tee'd into the line that goes to my distributor advance.
Don't like this.    I'll have to get a vacuum test hand pump thing.

I don't have the OSAC delay thing, or the CCEGR radiator temp switch.
unfortunately.

How do I know if I have a PM?    It says ' you have no new messages '

Kind of Broke right now anyway.    No money for vacuum lines tee's etc...
DOn't get paid until Monday........

Went out and ran my Cliipper for a while today....  new gas tank
"crudiment" getting up into carb Fram g2 filter.     Nice to know
the Fram in tank filter "made in Isreal" works so well.

Andy Illes

I've had problems with PMs too.

Basically, I just gave you my direct email.... HungarianDude@AOL.com. and phone.... 561-317-2282

Just had my tank out too, and messed with my charcoal jobbie, so I can help a little with it.

Have you seen this site?  http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail.html
It's funny as heck.
Seen, as I have no money to work on my Clipper right now.
Check it out,  there's lots of cartoon clips and it makes me bust up.

I got aol instant freebe messenger open under alias msofognio -
as a user name.

I guess I should replace my heater hoses as well on my RV....on of the used lines I didn't change looks about ready to bulge more and burst - the one from the intake manifold.
Always something.

But I love my Dodge.
