I'm curious what the proper starter motor size is for the 1978 Chrysler 440-1 engine.  According to the Mopar 1977 service manual, the 225 and 318 CID engine uses the 1.5 HP, 3.5:1 gear reduction starter motor.  The 360, 400 and 440 CID engine uses the 1.8 HP, 2:1 gear reduction starter motor, which is 0.5" longer than the 1.5 HP starter motor.  The 1978 Mopar service manual only refers to the 1.5 HP starter motor.  My 1978 Clipper with the 440-1 engine has a 1.5 HP starter motor, and I think it's the original.  I would be very interested in any comments on this subject.
Thank you, David
