Rear Brakes

Has anyone done a rear brake job?  My rig is the 1T chassis, dodge, full floating rear end.  I can do it but am asking for real life expieriences for guidance.  Just wondering what to watch out for.

The rear brakes are about the same as any other car or truck the only thing thats really importent is the wheel bearings make sure to clean them and adjust them correctly then make sure the lock tab on the big nuts that hold them in lock on the nuts good luck there a pain to do if you can aford it have them done

If you do them yourself, spend about 10 bucks at Pep Boys and get a socket for the big nut.  It's worth the expense.  A brake job is a good time to flush and replace the brake fluid.  Check your hoses for signs of aging, they are cheap to replace.

Rear Brake Job.    
If you want to have brakes that work as good or better than the discontinued asbestas brake linings that came out as new equipment on your Mopar.Install the Carbon metallic linings that are available for Dodge and most other one ton and larger rigs.When you do your front pads change them over also.I had my rear brakes only done that way and noticed an outstanding improvement in stopping ability.When my front pads get worn I will definitley have the carbon metallic pads installed.    Bob Chaney

Thanks guys.  I just got the drums off.  Will replace the cylinders, shoes, some of the springs and the bearings and races.  Drums look good but will get them turned.  Gotta tell ya'all that I am glad I opened it up.  Left rear cylinder was shot.  Shoes don't look too bad but new are the way to go.  Also, I found that one of the bearings had been impacted on two sides, around 12:00 and 4:00 positions.  Outside left rear.  Strange but glad I have inspected.
