Radiator replacement info

We found some small leaks in the radiator and decided to replace the radiator core rather than patch it. It was an education. We wanted to replace the 3 core radiator with a 4 core unit. The local radiator shop said the bottom tank on ours was too narrow to go to a 4 core radiator and recommended going with an `MX' core (manufactured by GDI in San Bernadino, CA). The stock core had 3 rows and each tube was 1/2 inch by about 1/8 wide and the tubes were on 9/16 centers. The `MX' core was 3 rows but each tube was 3/4 inch by about 1/8 wide. That means 50% more water flows through the radiator with the same number of rows. The other thing they did was space the tubes on 7/16 centers so there were 37% more tubes. In terms of cooling capacity  the 3 row `MX' core  has 205% (150% times 137%) the capacity  of the stock  3 row radiator. The cost was $265. Check it out if you have cooling problems or need to replace a radiator.

We've been VERY happy with their product. We took out old radiator to the local radiator shop where they ordered the new core to fit the old top and bottom tanks.
