Hello,
I own a 79 21 foot Calipper in very good shape. Having owned it for six months I am still learning the ins and outs. Recently I had the propane tank filled at Ace Hardware and found that the filling valve would not seal. It was cold outside and the fill hose froze to valve. Ace put an adapter on to complete the fill until I can find a replacement valve. Is there a generic replacement? The data plate is so worn I can only make out Brunnereng as the manufacture and there website does not exist. Data plate states capacity as 14.4 gal is this correct? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have read in other forums that sometimes people get propane with water in it. They report that things freeze up and will not work, light or operate properly in cold weather. It is a vendor created problem and a good RV propane vender can cure it for you, if it is a water problem. It is the first thing I would check and also the easiest. Can you get the rig warmed up and take the adapter off? It may stop leaking. I removed and kept my old tank when I installed the larger new one so I may have the part you might need, but I think again a good propane supplier would also have that fill port.

Thanks. temps are in the 40's here, mountains of AZ, so I will take your advice and remove the adapter. Affinity RV in Prescott AZ stated I would need to replace the whole tank or bring in the VIN # to see if they could locate a valve, something about the threads not matching present day valve's. Do you think by keeping the adapter in place is a safe alternative?

Yes I would trust it. I am guessing it is an extention, female on one end and male on the other with the same type of one way valve as on your tank. Keep it tight and you should be ok, just don't snag it on anything. I have a friend that has worked for a major propane company for many years and is now their service tech. I even did his route for him years ago when he had a hernia operation. Let me know if you need parts or questions answered, I'll stop and see him. Here is a few pics of my new tank. It is almost twice the volume of the orig, I cut in a door to access my water tank drain, the fill port, and the main valve, ect. it makes it a lot eaisier.

Temps rose to high 50's today. Upon filling the propane tank I could see/hear the seepage. The extension is in place and working well. I would rather replace the valve and have it working properly. If you do have the one off your old tank I would like to buy it. If not perhaps you could point in the right direction for a replacement.
