Hi all,
Time to start working on the Clipper again.
Can anyone tell me what is the hot (cool) setup for a fan clutch on my Clipper? I finally got the thing put back together (see my last post in '09) but it is not what I want and the Clipper overheats if I drive 55 MPH up any kind of a hill. I am still not sure if I have the proper pulley for this engine...anyone know the part number for the right pulley?
Many thanks in advance

Hi bro, are you sure that you don't have a blockage in your radiator???

Maybe a silley question, But what temp thermastat do you have or have you replaced it???

I have a 195 degree thermastat in mine and it has never given me problems.

I have the 440 and hills are no problem... fact is I think the Clipper looks for em'

Thanks John,
The Clipper had a fan clutch that was squealing at over 50 MPH. I had a (hack) mechanic install a new clutch and got the unit back with a badly misaligned pulley. Fan belts wouldn't stay on for five minutes. I didn't discover the problem until several months after the mechanic had gone out of business. My Clipper never overheated with the old fan clutch, now it does. I think the only thing that was changed was the fan clutch, but I don't know what brand or type it was. Pretty sure that is the only problem so I am asking for opinions on the best fan clutch for the Clipper.

Steve, It is sad that there are so many people out there that claim to be mechanics that are really bad. I'm going to be 70 years old next month and have been trying to retire for 5 years. Because I still have my shop to work on my race cars people are always coming by with sad stories about how someone screwed up or wants to overcharge them.

Back to your problem. With so much foreign made junk auto parts out there today it is hard to tell you the best one to get. Remember the big auto parts stores like NAPA just rebox parts and do not make them. Years ago I learned just because it is new does not mean it is any good.

Ask around and find a real mechanic not a parts changer. Look and see who is busy all the time without spending a lot on advertising. Don't judge buy the fact the guy has a really bitchen tool box and tools. I have a really nice set of golf clubs.

Good luck,   Doug

Thank you Doug.
I now have a decent mechanic but I wanted to be able to give him specific information about what to do, as well as specific part numbers before I take the Clipper in. That way he doesn't have to spend his valuable time looking up things that I can handle myself.
I sent the Clipper to the poor machanic because I had the assurance of a 'good' machanic that he was 'backing up' all the guy's jobs. I guess this one got past the 'good' guy.

You might check out this website.  They claim this part will fit our clipper.

Of course, I searched for the 1977 Dodge 440 since mine has that engine.  ;-)
