Horst Jerry Pd2 anyone at this point will help!!!!

Where do I find a sending unit for my Rig???

1977 Dodge 440, 36 gal tank...

Dodge no longer makes them and I went on line for an hour trying to find a sending unit......

To no avail....

I even tried J C Wittney  Nadaaaaa

Junkyard I guess - what about using one off a 22gal poly tank (lots of those) and sort of "calibrate" by guestimate and experience. This may be utter nonsense (you know - electrical dunce speaking here)

John, First, How do you know it is the sending unit? The sending unit is nothing more than a rheostat and the gauge is an ohm meter. Take a 12 volt test light and connect the wire to the fuel sending unit with the key on.  You should get a slow flashing light. Then take the wire off the sending unit and see if the gauge moves. Then ground the wire at the unit and see if the gauge moves. If you don't have power to the unit ( the light does not glow or flash ) then find out why.  Fuse or bad connection or wire?

You can buy a new universal sending unit for about $25. I have built gas tanks for trucks or changed from an old 6 volt system and had to change the sending unit.  No big deal.        Doug

Hey John,  Now you know why I also changed fuel gauges. Chrysler had the bright idea to use a voltage limiter on the fuel gauge as well as the temp gauge. Thats why I went to 12 volt gauges and senders to get away from all that voltage drop stuff. I knew you would find out when you started looking for a chrysler fuel sending unit, another bright idea! They read 0 ohms emty and 73 ohms full. So the sending unit is not compatable with a SW or VDO fuel gauge because they read 240 ohms empty and 33 ohms full. So stop beatin your self and get the universal sender with a SW or VDO gauge. Here is the P/N for the sending unit 100438, it's made by Maxima Tecknologies. Use a VDO gauge, and you might as well get a VDO temp gauge and change it at the same time and save yourself alot of trouble. Just call United speedometer they have what you need.  Hank Out!
