Haven't had my "Bernice",  ('78 821 DBH model) for but 2 years and only now have I really had time to look at, much less use her. I saw a control box behind the driver's seat for electronic leveler arms. Been reading through the back pages of all the forums, and I have not noticed any discussion over these. Is this an item that was added after the factory?

All the discussion I've seen has been the use of air bags or scissor jacks.

Also, the only keys I have with Bernice are for the ignition and the back (side door). Is there an easy way to get into the compartment on the side for access to the fridge without that funky looking key?

My clipper has air bags on the back if I put about 80psi in each it really inproves the ride. When we get ehere we are going we can adjust the psi on each side to level it out. Also, I had the same key problen you do so I found a bunch of old toolbox keys that my cousin had and started trying them. I found a couple that work. If you absoultly have to get in there you can take a flat screwdriver and tap it into the keyhole and turn it very hard and it will open. I had to do this, now that is the only way to get the fridge compartment open because no key will fit anymore.
Remember this, even though your compartments are locked any dummy with a screwdriver can get in. Locks only keep out honest people.

Tried using a mini-screwdriver set on the lock, having a driver in each side of the hole, but it just wasn't going to give without a big fight. I didn't want to end up using screwdrivers everytime, like your example, so I gave up until a better solution could become available.

It's a fairly common key - try any rv repair shop in your area - they might have one laying around.
If not - you can force it open with a screw driver - then simply replace the whole lock unit - any good hardware store will have a lock that works (with  key included)

Thanks Horst.

Hopefully I'll be back in fairer financial shape to start investigating more on Bernice soon. Hoping I don't have to post a Sale on the site.
