Hi all,

This really isn't a tech question but I didn't know where else to put it. So thanks for reading.

I was just wondering if anyone has stayed/lived in thier American Clipper, and if so for how long.   I am considering this to save some money here in CA with the way housing prices are.  Pro and Cons would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rodney

I've never stayed in my home for more that a few days at a time but what I really missed being away from home was a real shower and my bed. But I wouldn't be afraid of living longer in my Clipper if
I were alone for the most part as they aren't that roomie inside
a real shower close by.
power , sewer, h2o hook-up
make the bed better. I have been thinking of getting a tempur pedic like pad for the above bunk.
I knew a guy & his wife lived in a 26 ft trailer for several years and they are still married so it didn't do them in but after that may years in there older home it was pretty much trashed and ready for a complete interior from all of the wear and tare cooking ect. & they smoked AKK so that made it worse.
The best part about using my home is if I don't like the neighbors you can leave.
good luck in your adventure.

Hi Rodney

Thanks for the info.  I will staying by myself so room should not be a problem.  I am looking for a place with full hook up so I should have enough water, and sewer.  I do like my long hot showers thought, that is really my only concern.  Oh well I will know in a few days.  Will keep you all posted.  Does anyone have one of those sewer attachments for the coach.  My brother in law does and swears by it.  That may have to be a purchase real soon.

I read some feedback given to others on other forums regarding full timing in a class C.

As most can attest too, it hard to regulate the temp in a motor home. The insulation is not like that found in homes so the temperature swings can be great. Alot of folks said with prolong use condensation on the windows becomes a problem.

I read about a nifty gadget to help manage waste water. One guy connected his grey tank to black tank via a hose and used a small pump to move water from the grey tank to the black tank. The logic was that often times the grey tank fills faster than the black causing you to have to disconnect and dump the tanks. After the modification, when the grey tank fills you just flip a switch to pump some of the grey water into the black tank. Personally, I haven't done it yet but think I will in the near future.

And I'll make a note about safety that applies to everyone fulltiming or not. A while back I read a post that said there were instances where folks would knock on the door of a RV parked in a parking lot or what not and say that the rig was on fire. When the RV owner exited the RV they would rob them. Not trying to scare anyone but there are some real sick O's out there. Just be on the lookout for crap like that. Given you will be fulltiming your exposure would be greater.  Again, not trying to scare you. Just be on the lookout!

As far as showers go......if you have full hookups take a shower for as longs as you want. If your Clipper doesn't have the value extension I would suggest getting some. I don't have them but dumping my tanks is not a problem. It might be if I had to dump more often because I lived in it full time.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your decision!

Oh.......one last thought. While on another forum I ran across the below website. The website chronicles the travels of George. He travel up and down the West Coast. I've emailed Geoge back in forth a few time and he has provided me with some useful info. Take a minute and read some of the info on his site. If you have questions, shoot him an email and he'll respond. He's a really neat guy!

Thanks for the info. I am a little concerned about the safety issue but I cannot live in fear of what might happen only be cautious.  I will check out the website you gave and appreciate your input.  Where might I find info on fulltiming in a Class C.  Are they Clipper Members or another Class C?

Thanks
Bonnie

hey i'm living in my clipper and have been for the last 8 months. i regularly go to the state park nearby and dump my tanks with my $125 daypass. i fill up the water tank there too, although you can use the gasstation too. the water there isn't as nice. as long as your clipper's decent looking i don't think you'll have many problems. i haven't yet. i'm in santa cruz and have camped in half moon bay and san fran too. so there you go.

If it were me I would have to compare housing costs vs camping costs.  I don't know what the rent is like in CA, but I am sure it is higher than here.  I know that the state parks charge over $20 a night for a hook-up site.  One has to ask oneself if all the extra work involved is worth the hassle.  Packing up and moving to dump the waste, frequent trips for propane (depends on frequency of heater use), just driving the dang thing eats up gas so grocery runs will cost that much more.  At around $2.50 a gallon and 10mpg in your clipper it will add up.  A one or two bedroom apartment near my work runs for around $700 a month.

my 2 cents... :)

I frequent RV.net too. That's where I read the info.

These were other Class C owners not Clipper members/owners!
