50-gallon tank; where to get?

Because I cannot find a replacement for the defective sending unit, and because odometer-based travel is a hassle and prone to error and therefore stressful...   )  I'm wondering:
1. where can I get the 50-gallon steel tank?
2. does it come with sending unit and/or guage?
3. if not, will JC Whitney's top-mounted sending units work?
Thank you for your time.

The original Dodge chassis came with a 20 gal. gas tank. They were removed and replaced with larger tanks. The 50 gal. tanks used on the Clippers were custom made for Irv Perch and used for certain applications. (generators on board)  All other Clippers got 30 gal. tanks.
When the 50 gal. tank is full, the guage reads 3/4 tank full because they used the sender unit from the 30 gal tank in the 50 gal tank. I know of no source for finding a 50 gal tank like those used on the Clipper except from another Clipper.  I think I would look in a junk yard for a sender unit. It would be an easy fix on a 30 gal. tank. Good luck.

Thank you, Bob, this is valuable information.
We do have all the back issues of the Clipper newsletter; Walt Easley included them for us when we bought his Clipper last August. I just have not yet taken the time to study them carefully and, being lazy, this forum is an easy way to ask questions. My jobs require me to be on the computer many evenings anyway...
FYI, since you're from Clackamas, we and our Clipper will attend a model airplane flying event at Washougal, WA, during the first weekend in May. If you're interested, please email me privately (dieter@shredair.com), and I give you details.
Thanks again for the information.

OOPs, I goofed by saying "30 gal tank".  I was referring to the 36 gal. tank.
One time I asked Irv why I can only get about 30 gals of gas in what he calls a 36 gal tank.  He said its designed with a 5 gal air space at the top of the tank to allow for expansion of the gas in hot weather.  So that accounts for 35 gallons, where is the other gallon?  He said  "Its in the lines."
