GAS TANK

HI ALL

MY GAS GAGES DO NOT WORK AND ALTHOUGHT I HATE TO ADMIT IT I HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS ONCE.     HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD PROBLEMS WITH GAS GAGES AND HOW SO YOU FIX THE PROBLEM.

One problem that can cause the failure of the gas gauge and other gauges is bad connections on the round circuit board connector behind the dash instruments. The pins on this plug were press-fitted into a circuit board and sometimes over time make poor connections with the copper traces on the  board. Removing and replacing this plug can cause the connections to fail. I have repaired a couple of these by inserting small wires into the hollow pins and soldering them into the pins and onto the copper traces, with good success.
For a test, a ground applied at the sensor connection on the fuel tank should show a "full" indication on the gauge. If you get the reading, you have a bad sensor in the tank.

I read on a www.allpar.com that some guy that had RV for his 'bot's
used a VDO aftermarket sender - but that he installed it on the tank sender backwards to make it work ..........its 0-90 ohms.    His was 10 - 90 ohms and he has low guage error........

Humm just like mine........
