generator housing/spare tire

I had posted a message regarding the mounting of the spare tire and I understood the mounting was behind the generator housing (the brackets were gone) but in reading Adrian's generator housing concern, it sounds like Adrian's spare is mounted right underneath the generator. Which spot was it originally mounted? I still need to move mine from the rear bumper to accomidate my new cargo carrier. Thanks in advance to anyone's input and good luck to Adrian.

I don't have a generator but my spare is mounted underneath the coach, in FRONT of where a generator would go.  The tire carrier is a slick deal to hold the tire and make it relatively easy to drop it down and replace as needed.  I don't know where you would find an original save off an old Clipper.  Perhaps one of the old timers could tell us.

We found a spare tire device from a late ford pick up ($20). Got if from a welding shop that makes custom truck beds. They take them off new trucks when they mount the tire elsewhere. We got in a discussion about spare tires and their point was 1) the newer tires are much more reliable and 2) they don't worry about a spare as AAA would be called to change a flat on their motorhome. Food for thought. It is a housing with a cable that cranks down and the end fits through the center hole in the tire to lift it up. We are looking at mounting it someplace for the spare. There is a rod that goes into it that is flattened on the end to crank the tire up/down. Works on the trucks should work on a Clipper.  We don't want the spare on the back as we tow boat or horsetrailer. It could be rigged (maybe to go over a pulley) to lift the tire into the stock location or possibly behind the fuel tank (might have to modify the 50 Gallon tank). Slick little device.

I could be mistaken. But our 1979 Clipper still has the mounting post for the spare wheel attached to the frame adjacent to the generator location,[we carry our spare on the right rear of the coach} It should not require rocket science to rig a carrier bolt and flange to the origonal location. I have 21 foot 1979 and the spare is located under the generator.  I have had that kind of location on another vehicle and like it.  When I want to put the spare back up, I find that putting a bottle jack under the arm and using that to get the tire up in there works best for me.  The last two inches is hard to get.
