Speaking of engine oil..............

What engine oil do you guys/gals run in your Clipper?

I use 20/50 Castrol or 20/50 Chevron - based on my mechanics advice.

Sometimes I wonder if I could use something thinner in winter - maybe get better mileage?

Hey Buddy, I am curently using 20 / 50  Valveoline. as per the rebuilders advice.

I was running Valv 30 wt for years.  Then again I have been running it for ever in all my rides.
everything gets changed at 1200 miles. Better safe than sorry!!!!

Oh I think the distributor is bad....  possible bad pick up --  no spark

Will change when my check gets here....

I use Valvoline SAE 30 in everything from my lawn mower to Toyotas and my Chevy. I haven't changed the oil in my Clip yet but if John says 20/50 I think I'll use that!!!!!!!

A mechanic once explained the reason for 20/50 (I forgot most of it) but basically, it's because our motors (especially the 360) are working very hard - almost all the time - so it calls for extreme protection, for the cam, etc.
It's one thing when a 360 is pushing a 1/2 ton truck, or a car.
It's something entirely different when it's pushing a 10,000+lb box down the road, or up some pass.

Still - I know some people use 10/30 or 10/40......................I won't...........unless I'm in Alaska/Canada in winter.

Just one more thing about "oil"

I have found that using a detergent oil is the BEST THING TO USE!!!!

t will not gum up anything that should not be gummed!!!!!

and I don't know if this is true--  But an old friend of mine "He's 88 yrs old"

used to be a mechanic at the ford factory.   He told me to put a hevy duty magnet

on the oil filter,  to collect the metal the gets tossed around then when you remove the filter take the magnet and put it on the new filter..  Like I said , I don't know if it works
But it does make sence...
