Getting ready to buy a new generator. The old generac runs but does not put out so I though an upgrade to a new (quieter) model was in order.

What brand/model do most of you have?

DCI, A friend of mine bought this Honda http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/ModelDetail.asp?ModelName=ev4010 last month and I can tell you that it is the quietest generator I have ever seen and it fits on the Clipper perfectly.

I was looking at that one, as well as the EV6010. 6000 watts and it is only slightly bigger in size. They say the honda's are extremely quiet and since I will be using it almost every weekend that would be a plus.

Let us know what you get and how it works.

Tom:   Most  of the Clippers that came with gen sets had units in the 4000 watt range.  Look at the "Choose the right generator" link on the Honda generator website you listed and you will see that a 10,000 BTU A/C needs 2200 watts starting and 1500 watts running, TV sets 700 watts, Microwave ovens 625 watts and coach lights don't add up to much. I suspect you will get the job done with 4000 watts and save a few bucks, reduce you gas operating costs and some weight to boot.  Honda generators are superb units.

DCI

Thanks. I am looking at the 6000 unit because of all the other stuff I use at the track with the race car. Having the extra watts will be more benefical to me in the long run. 4000 would be more than adequate for the RV alone but with the battery charger, car computer and datalogger....etc I am leaning towards the extra watts.

Ruben - Where did your friend buy it at? I can not find a dealer who will order me one! Seems there is only one distributor in the US.

Assuming you haven't gone this route, ask them to give you a dealer in your area or one that you can order from.

TRY NORWALL.COM FOR SOME GOOD GEN PRICES. THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW PEOPLE THAT HAVE TRIED THE GENERAC NEW GENERATION UNITS AND HAV BEEN HAPPY. THE 4000 SELLS FOR $1225.OO INCLUDING FREIGHT TO A COMMERCIAL LOCATION. THE GENERAC IS A LITTLE LOUDER THAN SOME OF THE OTHERS, BUT IS ABOUT HALF THE PRICE  :D

DCI

Paid $2565 for a new EV6010. Hopefully next weekend I can get it mounted and then I will let everyone how well it works.

I got my Onan MicroQuiet 4000 from Colorado Standby for about $2400 delivered to my door with install accessories. Muffler pip, remote switch etc...

Here's their website - http://www.coloradostandby.com/catalog/index.php

Should have mention that the Honda came with installation kit and choice of passenger side or drivers side muffler kit.
It is 6000 watts and manual says it has a db rating of 56 @ 10' @ half load with their muffler. Lowest I have seen yet.
The EV4010 is only 4000 watts and about $300 cheaper.

I will post some pics after I get it installed.

PS - Could not get a dealer to order one for me so I ended up getting set-up through the Honda Distributor and ordered directly from them.
