hi
when I had my tank out to weld up a hole I found a tag on the pass. side of the tank which had the size printed on it. You might crawl under there with a rag and see if you can find it, mine was under a few layers of grime.

I was always under the impression that the 36 Gallon tanks looked more like an OEM style tank.  Where the 55 gallon tank is a big L shaped steel box.

If you think your guage is broken because it only goes to 3/4 when the tank is full, then you have a 55 gallon tank.  They didn't bother changing the sender unit, so that's just the way it is.

was under the clipper today, and after extensive wiping and looking for the size of the tank still no tag or imprint of the size. I believe it is 36 gallons though because it is around 4ft long and around 2 ft wide. Anyone else have a 36 gallon tank? What is the size

Like shayne said the 55 gallon tanks are custom built. My 55 gallon tank has a maunfacture tag. the OEM tanks won't have a tag like this so sounds like you have the 36 oem tanks. which ever one you have it's never ENOUGH!!

IF YOU HAVE THE MANUFATURED TANK IT'S FIFTY GALLONS, OR AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT MY ORIGINAL SALES PAPER SAYS. I'LL POST IT ON HERE SOMETIME AND EVERYONE WILL BE SURPRISED. ANYWAY, I BOUGHT A FUEL MONITOR FROM NAVMAN.COM. IT WAS DESIGNED FOR BOATS. WITH NO RETURN LINE TO TANK IT WORKS GREAT. JUST SET THE AMOUNT OF FUEL YOU PUT IN THE TANK OR SLIGHTLY LESS FOR A RESERVE AND IT WILL REGISTER EXACTLY WHAT YOU USE.  A LIFE SAVER TO SAY THE LEAST.

Tanks
Early Clippers had the 36 gallon tank - it is polyethylene (plastic) - easy to identify - hey - it's plastic, and has rounded corners.
They then switched to a 50 gal steel tank - metal, with corners.

Many Clippers have different after-market tanks - especially the steel ones as they rust out over time (the plastic ones crack)

Again - those of you with plastic ones - check the junk yards - it's worth it to have a spare on hand that you can pick up for 30-40 bucks - instead of 600+ IF you can find a "new" one - which is very difficult.

When I moved and tried to fill up my tank,  I found I could not put any more than say 3/4 a tank in it.    I had replaced it with a plastic tank from a dodge van 36 gal.    ( It had an even bigger plastic tank when I got it, but it was cracked. )   The metal line that is in the filler neck to the tank
has separated from the filler neck.    It's some vapor vent line.... and it's inside the wall of the clipper.    I just can only fill up so much then a puddle starts to form.....

I've kind of given up on my clipper.   At least for now.    I think having a lifter fail on my brand new motor did me in.    Or maybe I did it.....I had her up to 70 mph towing a car.    Downhill of course....

That or the wood rot under the driver side rear wheel well front splash plate.....

Or the many other things I could fix on it.

Or maybe it's just cause I work all the time.

Howdy Aliendude........long time no hear from.

Sorry you are discouraged. I'm getting there too. My frustration is that I'm very busy at work (home too) and I don't have the time to work on my Clipper. The repairs I expect.

I'm going to persevere though. Hopefully I can do some work between Thanksgiven and X-mas. Wow.....on 11/22/05 I will have had my Clipper 2 years. Time sure does fly.

Hang in there, my friend!  Good to hear from you.

bummer on that lifter aliendude......
I do make a habit of trying to convince people to slow down in their Clippers - not saying that's what caused your lifter failure

It's just me I know - but 70mph in a Clipper is simply too fast - and towing a car too boot.......I'd never dream of doing that (towing a car at that speed in a Clipper)

Unless you make serious suspension and steering mods - 70mph is just not safe in a Clipper - not to mention a signicant strain on your drive train.

But I'm in the minority...........but I do feel good cruising at 55 - and my clipper loves it - and I even drive by some gas stations!
