Title: Vent Pipe Cover
Post by: bigray on March 22, 2004, 05:25:00 AM
I have a 79 rear kitchen and the vent pipe over my closest does not have a cover and when it rains I'm getting some leakage in my closest.

The ceiling around where the pipe goes has began to rote. I've tried to find a vent cover to fit it but the base of all the ones I've found are two big.

Any suggestion. Please give me a part number for what I need so that I can avoid costly repairs in the near future.

Thanks!

Sounds like the bathroom vent.  If you are getting water/moisture inside your clipper then the vent pipe needs to be sealed.  If rain enters the pipe there should be no problem cuz it just goes to the holding tank.  Re-seal around the pipe penetration where it goes through the roof.  I would suggest that you get a vent cover on the pipe as well.  Mine had a moulded PVC cap which I replaced with a venturi type cap.  In theory when you motate on down the road, the ventury action helps suck out the holding tank gases.  If you go with this type, make sure you align it correctly fore and aft.

Conrad,

What is the part number and manufacturer of the vent cap. I haven't been able to find one that fits.

If I can order it via the phone or internet, that would be great.

Let me know!!

Thanks Jim but I don't know if I like the idea of a t-fitting. Sorta reminds me of my spinkler system.

I'm holding out for a vent cap!

Big Ray- Venturi pipe.
(//images/smiles/icon_cool.gif)  You might want to reconsider and follow Jim's suggestion Instead of black however I used an off white PVC tee. Additionally I used atapered fitting[PVC] inside the tee to venturi[Speed up] the air going in which creates more vacuum or suction at the head of the vent pipe. Works great, costs nearly nothing. I think I bought mine at an ACE hardware store.  Any RV shop should have a vent cap somewhere's.
