Title: Choosing new batteries....
Post by: 19julien59 on May 02, 2011, 12:01:50 PM
I am in need of replacing my deep-cycle batteries and would like some advice.  12V or 6V?  Amp-Hours?  Construction type: wet, gelled, AGM?  I will be dry-camping, have a small Honda Generator, hope to use the frig on gas, may need to run the furnace some at night, minimal 12V light usage.  Am thinking of getting a small PV panel to help keep things charged up (probably go with a 60-80 W portable system...they are more in my budget).  Any input would be helpful.  Thanks

If you are thinking of installing solar panels you might check out   < http://sunelec.com/>,  Great price on panels.

As far as the batteries we have full timed for over ten years and I highly recommend using 6V.  I suggest using  Trojan T305.  They will fit but very tight.

If you need any help in installing the solar system come back to this site someone will help.

Thanks Mccammonds...I am planning to take-over part of the generator storage compartment to mount the batteries...sealing it off and leaving the exisiting outside vent door in place....this will make access much easier for service and replacement too. I'll check out the solar site!
