Well got my '78 a couple months ago and been working through the minor stuff. Here's the current one that has me scratching my head. When I bought it the water pump fired up and generator tried to turned over. After playing with the generator since it had never been used and trying to get it to work it quit even getting any spark, and the pump would not turn on. 1st fix was to change the 10 year old battery, since even the engine wouldn't turn over or take a charge. Installed new battery but could not get to it that day so the next day I went out and the new battery was totally dead. I had left nothing on and can not figure out what is robbing all the juice from the battery ? Any ideas would be appreciated has to be an open circuit somewhere. There is a tggle switch on my steering column that seems to control the flow to some circuits but that was off. pineapple dave
Hi Dave
Is this a new House battery or a new Auto battery that you bought?

It's the auto battery. I went and read a bunch of the old posts dealing with this issue and have deduced somewhere I have an open circuit after circuit testing. Next move is to start pulling fuses and trace it from there.
Using a test light hook one end to battery and other to the cable. (With it disconnected) If the light glows you will have a drain somewhere. The reason I say to test it this way, is that is doesn't put as much drain on the battery and you can check it when to get the chance until the problem is found. When the light goes off, you found the problem.
