Title: GVW issues
Post by: Horst on April 14, 2010, 08:53:36 PM
So I dug up some old notes of mine - and found this:

Front - 2940lbs
Rear - 6260lbs
Total - 9200lbs

This, unfortunately, was what my Clipper weighed (truck scale) with:
-almost full tank of gas
-Full tank of water
-empty holding tanks
-very little food and about 1/2 of my normal "gear" for a trip
-only me in the vehicle

So - I put in all my trip gear, two teenagers, my wife, three bikes, surf gear, beer/wine, firewood, blah, blah, blah.............I'm easily 1,000+ over - possibly approaching 1,500 over...........
Now I know why my springs are stressed....
Now I know why I like to drive slow......

If you have not done so - you may want to weigh your rig - if you discover that you're 1,000lbs+ over your GVW - you may not want to drive 75mph - things can get dicey real quick at that speed when you're overloaded.
