Title: Steering Center Link
Post by: 2Travelers on February 12, 2010, 08:59:59 AM
I have a 1978 21' clipper that we have almost fully restored, with new fabric inside, new mattress, new vinyl flooring, new radio, new water pump and more.  I am now working on repairs to the chassis, steering, and suspension.  We now have new Power steering pump and hoses, new ball joints, and idler arms.

Now, I need the center link for the steering.  I have found the part for the standard chassis, but not the part for the 4000 lb front end.  Any suggestions for a source for this part?

Looks like RockAuto has the hd/camper part.

The Rock auto catalog lists the RAYBESTOS Part # 4401016 for a 3800 lb front end.  My original window sticker shows a 4000 lb front axle.
Is the 3800 and 4000 the same part?

Hi Jim
I don't think that's the right one, go to this link and Moog shows the same part but says it will not fit the 1 ton vans.

They don't show the part you need for sale on their website either. Let us know if you find a vendor for these.

Hi Jerry, John here,,  Glad I read this -- I amd going to rebuild the front end all over again

and will use these heavy duty parts.  What do you think about using air shocks up front..

A friend of mine made the suggestion..

Hi John
I don't think an air shock will fit in that space. An air bag inside the coil maybe, but I have no practical knowledge in that area. I like my H.D. springs and shocks with the Timbren upgrade. For the money it's hard to beat.
John, hows the Clipper coming along? Mine is snowed in the hoop house waiting for spring >:(

Hi Jerry, Well-- at his time the old girl is getting rained on....for the past four days

before that I was involved with a Honey Doooooo List that you would not believe!

Thank god the daughter still lives with us!!!!.

While I got you here, Do you know if the carb from a 318 will fit on the 440.....

I have a friend that is rebuilding my thermaquad but I had a thought..OMG"

I have seen several 318s in the wrecking yard in the vans and thougt if they fit I will just

grab one and save it till I need a new one.  If you don't have a clue to this

question do you think HORST would know....
