I have recently had a few close calls with low bridges that could easily have resulted in a bad accident.
Does anyone know of a good GPS system or add on for my Garmin that would give a low bridge warning?
Something like a speed camera POI list could work, but I can't seem to find anything.
Many thanks.
My Nokia has a 'Truck' routing vs. 'car' that supposedly avoids low bridges and narrow streets.
Thanks for your helpful advice.
I have decided to try a POI database that has been recommended to me on several forums.
You can download it at http://www.lowclearances.com
It looks really good.
Thanks again.
I thought I remembered a friend's Garmin ( not sure which model) also had a Truck routing as well as automobile, pedestrian and bicycle. Maybe that option is model specific. Thanks for the poi db site.
Here's a free user-contributed POI .gpx file as well:

Hi there, I am about to enter that GREY area of asking a question or a comment....
I thought that all bridges were 15 to 16 ft. I have never thought to check the clearance
since the clipper isn't as tall as a Big Rig. " and I used to drive one... Go figure...
