We just purchased a 1978 Bunkhouse, 88K miles, had the whole front end rebuilt, brakes, shocks (and more) and now need to buy 6 new tires.
The mechanic suggested "Michelin LTX 10 or 12 ply on side wall". In reviewing the Michelin specs it says for light duty trucks.
As our Clipper came without any manuals or paperwork I have no idea if we weigh in as a "light duty truck."
The translated VIN# F3-4-B-D-8-V-720482 (I added the dashes) suggests from Code "B" that the GVW is "6,001 lbs to 10,000 lbs".
I would assume that was for the original Dodge van setup but maybe not.
What is the GVW for an American Clipper and if we can get it down by model, a 1978 Bunkhouse. And, what size, make etc tires do y'all prefer out there?

You want to get a MINIMUM D rated tire (65 psi) An E rated tire (80psi) would handle better, but may transfer more road vibration so might not seem as nice, but less likely to blow.
Michelin makes a fine tire. Avoid tires made in China, especially Carlisle, though they tend to only turn up on trailers. The BFG Commercial TA is a nice tire and will be cheaper than the Michelin. BFG is owned by Michelin, that's not to say they are the same tire, the Michelins I would say are a more premium tire, but the BFG will serve you well and save a few bucks.
The real problem might be finding them in the 16.5" sizes most Clippers need. If you have 16" wheels, then you should have no problem.
