100 Amp vs. 65 Amp Alternators

We recently purchased a Dodge 440 1977 Clipper, and promptly (and I do mean promptly) the alternator died on it. (Died, as in sparks and everything)  We are looking to replace it and upgrade to the 100 amp model.  After some research, we found that you cannot simply bolt a 100 amp model onto the brackets from a 65 amp mounting.  So our next mission was off to a junkyard to find the brackets and "engineer" them to work.  Lucky for us, we found a company called Quality Power, Inc. in Duarte, CA (626) 358-0763 who are alternator/starter experts.  They can take our 65 amp alt and rebuilt it completely for around $100 AND upgrade it to the 100 amp windings. (Lifetime warranty)  They also mentioned something about some kind of thingamabob that should also be replaced for $25, or the new 100 amps would blow it out.  We will be having this done in the next couple of weeks and will let you know how it goes.  Anyone else out there have this kind of experience?
