Title: Alternator Bolt Broken - how do I drill out?

Hi everyone - would love advise on drilling out the alternator bolt that has broken. It finally needs to be repaired, what's the best way to get it out without having to drop radiator and half the engine? Would love ASAP feedback!!!

Hi Robyn,


There Are A Few Ways To Extract This End Of Bolt,

1.) Spray Really Good With Blast Pentrating Spray, Seems Better Than WD-40.

2.)Note: This Bolt Should Be Real Hard Grade 8, The Supply Officer With ACOC Has Them. See Parts Info.

3.)Use Small Size Cobalt Drill Bit & Drill Pilot Hole,This Has To Be In Dead Center, Then Use Right Angle Drill Like Bosch May Able To Rent @ Home Depot. Use Left Handed Drill Bit Or Use Extrator Bit. May Back Out.

4.) I Have Seen Mechanics Use A Bolt Smaller & Weld To Old Thread If There Is Room, Then Add Scoket & Back Out.

You May Want To Find Mechanic, This Is Not The Job For Weekend Mechanic. You Can Miss Up Block Threads. Then Have To Drill & Add Heli Coil, & That Will Not Be Advised For Power Steering Bracket, To Much Strain On Threads..

Hope This Helps, I Know You Like To Do It Yourself, But Some Jobs Are For Pros..  ;)

The Right Angle Drill If You May Have To Remove Fan & Clutch To Gain Acess.
