Lavatory Sink Faucet

OK, I have taken my faucet off, replaced washers, etc. and it's still leaking from under the top.  So, I am looking at replacing it but have a few questions:

1.  I know most bathroom faucets are 4" centerset.  If I'm remembering correctly, that is the distance between the center of the connections underneath the sink (that the pipes plug into).  Is that right? 

2. If so, then my current faucet is about 3-1/2".  That means I can't use a standard bathroom faucet without redrilling the sink holes, which I don't want to do.  So, if that's the case, could I use a single hole faucet?  I'm thinking I could use the second hole for a soap dispenser.

Joe - I know you're out there...  help me please.  I'd love to have this done before the rally.

So here's the latest:

The faucet is NOT a standard 4" centerset faucet.  It is 2-3/4" centerset.  In addition, the 2 outside holes are only 5/8 in diameter, not the standard 1-3/8" to 1-3/4".  The middle hole is maybe about 1/4" in diameter.   Because of the closeness of the holes, I don't think I can enlarge them to fit the standard faucet.

So, I'm back to the drawing board - either finding a way to fix the one I have or finding something that will work.  I don't want to replace the sink at this time.

I may take my faucet to the local repair places and see if they have any ideas.
