Title: Codorniz Recreation Area & Campground - Eastman Lake, California
Post by: Toedtoes on March 11, 2017, 09:08:56 PM
The dogs give this place 3.5 Lizards.  I posted it in Dry Camping, but it also has hookup sites (two 50amp sites with sewer and water; several 30amp sites with sewer and water, and several 30amp sites with water).

It's about 30 minutes from Chowchilla off Highway 99.  The lake is huge and fortunately nice and high at the moment.  There is a ton of wildlife there - coyotes, bobcats, hawks, eagles, waterfowl, cottontail bunnies, squirrels, raccoons, lizards, turkey vultures, etc.  Fishing is said to be good there - nice bass, catfish, rainbow trout, bluegill and crappie.  There is a limit of 1 (22 inches or longer) on the bass, 5 on the trout, and a combined 25 on the bluegill and crappie.  No limit on the catfish.

The sites aren't real far apart from each other, but they are nice.  Some have wooden canopies over the picnic table.  All have a firepit and picnic table.  Dry sites have water spigots every few sites.  There are flush toilets and showers in most of the sections (one of the dry loops has just a pit toilet).  There is a sandy volleyball court, kids playground, fish cleaning station, boat ramp and dump station.  There are 3 group campsites which are very nice.

It does get hot in the summer, but off-season is very nice.  Nice trail that goes around the lake from the group campground area - not too difficult and lots of great views.

The campground is clean and maintained.  It is a Corps of Engineer campground, so the rangers and the county sheriff's department patrol it regularly.  There is a camphost.  It appears to be a favorite spot for birdwatchers.  There is hunting in areas.

Bat-dog and Moose-dog say that it is an EXCELLENT place to bring your dogs for some outdoor activity.  But be careful with your smaller dogs due to the coyotes, bobcats and larger birds.  The dogs are very impressed with the birds, squirrels, bunnies and lizards - they were very willing to play a game of "catch me if you can" (of course, the wildlife always won, but the dogs enjoyed it just the same).
