Title: Fuel Injection
Post by: retrorob on May 10, 2019, 12:20:18 PM

After mulling it over for a long time I have decided to install fuel injection on my Clipper. I have grown tired of the issues with the old Thermoquad carb it originally came with, hard start, fuel consumption and most importantly heat soak. I realize the MPG is always going to suck but if i can see a 1/2 mile per gallon increase that would amount to over a 6.5% increase.

The parts I've gotten or ordered are:
Edelbrock CH4B old school 60's aluminum intake with no EGR provision
FiTech 30002 fuel injection unit
FiTech 40003 command center. Its a stand alone high pressure fuel pump.
Carter P4070 low pressure pump to supply the command center.
FelPro intake/valve valley gasket with the exhaust crossover blocked
Vented gas cap required for the command center.

The overall plan is to eliminate the EGR valve, remove the charcoal filer canister and install the command center in its place, swap out the manifold and install the injection unit.

I will update progress as time allows.

Anyone else out there who has done something similar shoot me a note.

i have put fuel injection on my old 77. i had a  mile per gallon increase from 7 to 8. from 10 to 11. i put in a holly sniper type of fuel injection. i did put in a new distributor. this is the type i went with https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sne-565-301/overview/make/ford. & https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aei-13301 for the PSI Regulator. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sne-556-151 Ignition Box. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sne-556-152 Coil. when i did it, i was wanting to get all the old stuff for the Ignition out of it. i was wanting to make it run a lot better. vs what it ran like before.

oh before i forget, make sure when you doing it. to run a hard line from pump to the unit. or braided lines. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/mr-gasket-steel-braided-fuel-line-kit-1526/6900020-P this is a type i like a lot. & i did put a over drive on transmission from gear vendor.
